USED VOLVO TRUCKS LIVE THE DREAM FOR AC BLACK & SON (HAULIERS) LTD
Based in Uddingston, North Lanarkshire, the men behind Scottish transport operation, AC Black & Son (Hauliers) Ltd know exactly what works for them, and that's Volvo Used Trucks.
Andrew Black Jnr explains, “We run two trucks and trailers. One is on container work with my dad, which runs locally out of Grangemouth and Greenock, so he’s home most nights. My own truck goes all over the UK on fridge work, taking salmon south and then bringing dairy produce for supermarkets back to Scotland.” The Black family has been buying used FH tractors from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland for around 13 years now, making their most recent purchase the eighth Volvo to arrive.
“The new Volvo is a 14-plate Version 4 FH13-500 which we've put on the distance work with me,” Andrew tells us. “That's how we like to do it, we'll buy a four-year-old truck, keep it for three or four years then repeat the process.”
Andrew chose the D13K 500hp engine for fuel economy. “I'm running heavy a lot of the time and it seems to be the happy medium before you go too big,” he says. “It's a nice size; it gives you the power and the torque you need.” Then there's the I-Shift automated gearbox, which Andrew loves. “What a dream that is,” he says. “It's a lazy man's ‘box, it just makes things so much easier! Overall it's a nice, big truck.”
Most of AC Black & Son's maintenance is done in-house, so the back-up of a good parts service from their local Volvo trucks dealerpoint at Glasgow West is vital.
“If they haven't got it they'll get it the next day”,” Andrew confirms. “Volvo have got other depots up here and they'll ship parts in if needs be, so I can't grumble with that. The sales team and all departments are all good to deal with,” he adds. “You build a working relationship with them. Any problems you get, they deal with. That's all I'm looking for, I just want to be able to sleep at night and not worry about it!”
